ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
This no homework BS is why Western students lag behind Asian students. Putting in extra time is part of life if you want to get ahead, rather than putting in the bare minimum. I agree that there should be a limit on the amount given, but an hour or two of homework each day, on the weekend, whether it be research for a paper/project or some reading is a good thing. Education is a continuing process, not just Monday to Friday, 9 - 3:40.

Well, We'll have to respectfully disagree. My time belongs to me.

I always did well on exams because I paid attention in class.

If homework is used as a way for slower students to earn extra credits, then I support it.

But, for me, it had no value except bring down my grade. I consistently got As and Bs in my exams.

Homework was not contributing to my 'education is a continuing process', it was interfering with my education.

Yes that may have worked for you, but when I went to school I needed homework. Sometimes I wouldn’t fully get what was taught in the confines of 0815-330, so I needed extra practice. English and Math are the two big ones when I think of homework; they are both subjects that either needs extra time so that you may learn them properly. Unless you want to read a book out loud in class you have to read them at home and math would never sink in for me until I spend at least 30 min on the formula.

I hope these schools have competent teachers, but my suspicion is that it will just be a feel good school. That the parents will feel good their kids are going to an all native school, but the shock will come when the kids have to re-integrate back into society. I hope they children are prepared, if they are not it will doom their generation to become intellectually stagnant.

If I remember correctly, we spent 3 friggin years on long division in elementary school and I learned it in one day. Did I need to have my grades affected because I was too f#cken bored to do the homework? I say test the kid, and if he does well, then let him learn something else.

I don't care if they blame their problems on whites, chinese or blacks. If they do their maths, sciences, languages and become productive members of society it would benefit the whole country.
