Well, thats a better argument...if I understand you right, this is not really a band land claim issue, but one of the Iron law of oligarchy: an organizational elite or "local bourgeoisie" using the aboriginal land dispute system to advance its own particular interests against the will of its own population?

You got it. And in it lies the dangers others may attempt to negate or intrude on legal treaties with other Bands, using it a precedent.
The individuals of that Band stand to benefit equally with everyone else, but there is no legal standing for the Band itself to gain from a mine in another Bands treaty area.
Vancouver can't claim the right to tax gravel from a pit in Chilliwack, Victoria can't claim a royalty from Alberta oil on the basis it says it should be able to.

Certain hard-core people seem to benefit by taking a very "PQ" approach:
- never say exactly what you want because you might get it. Reject every offer as not good enough.
- boycott every opportunity to meet so you can claim you've never been consulted.

Hope that even if it turns out a massive FAIL, everyone is so disgusted with the politics they don't show up and vote you out.

Wow...just wow. learn some shit about the first nations and then come back and speak about land claims. Sorry to say it but you are all misinformed. (yes I am being polite)

This bunch needs to put down the text books and do some real research agreed.
