Goober_McGee Goober_McGee:
No, if you read what I said, you'd understand that all I meant was that the French language is still strong and in regular use, and if people are determined to speak it then they will regardless of laws or government intervention

Fair enough but I wasn't pronouncing the language dead. I made one statement and I didn't intend to attack or defend the language itself.
$1:

Again, read what I said. Swedes never really spoke French, and that Belgium has a healthy French language. I never agreed or disagreed with your google search but if you want to go that route these were the only two credible links that I found:
http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/3605
http://theworldwidedeclineoffrench.blogspot.com/

They both come off as reactionary blogs about mass immigration in Europe. Also if you google English language decline you get just as many people complaining about that subject.

I meant everywhere. For some reason Sweden and Belgium came to mind first. Yes those ar right wing blogs but they're only regurgitating the truth that's been known and talked about for a long time. "Reactionary blogs"..yeah, I agree. THey sound a little like the PQ. We don't ahve to do blogs. We could do books, courses, academics, statistics. Even in Africa it's on the decline, I believe Rwanda has stoped teaching it or using it, IIRC.

The fact is it's a fact and I don't really need to prove it any more than I have to prove that the West has a low birth rate or something of that nature: you can easily find the info yourself. No one out there is denying it or claiming the opposite. I think it's mutually belittling to argue or deny it. If someone doesn't believe my original statement then I don't feel a compelling need to convince them that the sky is blue.
