I wonder what'll happen if the natives try and erect a protest blockade?? The CHRC must have been taking lessons from the IOC, or they from them, when it comes to overstepping the Canadian Constitution.

Much like Oka and Caledonia the Natives'll get a free pass to engage in public behaviour that would get any other Canadian a year in jail. That's merely par for the course in anything to do with the flip-for-flop reverse racism of the Canadian justice system.

I can't see this supposed legislation standing. I'd imagine that there isn;t a court out there that won't strike it down based on it's inherent flimsy pretext. Much like the Quebec crisis the government is assuming that any anti-Olympic protests are automatically an incitement to street violence, and I can't see anywhere that they have a basis for making that assumption. This thing'll be completely dead the minute it hits the desk of any judge out there.

There is always protests at the Olympics, Native or not so that bs about the reverse Racism is moot. The Olympics are the most colossal waste of money going and are as corrupt as most things that require lots of money .

I have a feeling they might have stirred up a hornet's nest with this one. I'd say there's going to be some fireworks.

I know, these whiners that go on free speech. What a bunch of rubbish. I mean, weren't we all happier, deep down, when we lived in an absolutist monarchy. The fact is people should be happy about the Olympics, and if they're not, they need to be sent somewhere to be re-educated.

What??? This is the exact opposite of Human Rights and its entirely possible that someone would take the IOC or the govt to the CHRC for this issue. The CHRC, for all its shortcomings, is there to ENFORCE the constitution, overzealously to some, but to enforce it nonetheless.

This is right-wing authoritarianism, no doubt. Make sure the olympic sponsors and business interests reap their financial windfall with minimal disruption. Im not an anti-olympian, but lets be honest, the only reason govts spend billions of public dollars and fall all overthemselves to host the games is that business interests want it for their own benefit.

So if you protest the IOC getting a special lane on the Lion's Gate, saying 'Walk or bike you lazy bastards' you'll be bum fluff for Big Bubba from Burnaby?

Yup. Exactly. This is CLEARLY an unconstitutional policy, but it doesn't matter. It gets the protesters off the street immediately and the sign down. I'm just surprised they didn't announce this the day the Olympics started instead of now. Maybe someone has time to challenge it in court before it's implemented?

Believe me honey we are challenging this shit in court...its called PIVOT and we and them are taking shit to the max...fuck our rights and we will fuck up the olympics

Last time I was home, all of Canada was a free speech(within the limits of the law) zone. Didn't VANOC buy those IOC officials enough whores and booze?

The government of BC knows full well that this will never pass constitutional muster so they are leaving it to the last minute.

Bastards.

The reality is that the only thing that needs to be protected is "unfair" commercial advertising and they have done that by buying up all the billboard space. This is just to make it easier for the police to stop people doing things that offend the IOC.

The Natives will be bought off with some spots for dancing and some booths
to sell their carvings and stuff.. Others will be prevented from going anywhere
near Vancouver.

The CHRC will do nothing about this law, and other laws that will follow in the
next year. There is no discrimination.

No judge will ever see this dossier until after the Olympics, 6 months is
not a long time for the courts, and you can be sure everything will get lost
in the shuffle.

TG, I have had a look at PIVOT. Simply, a non-profit working for drug users
has neither the resources, time, money, legal expertise or public profile
to stop any of this legislation. Sorry to say it, just my opinion.

And, at the end of the day, 99.99% of the people will simply roll over and take it,
this and much worse, cause 10k a day and 6 months is too much penalty to bother
expressing an opinion. They will make an example of a couple of true hotheads,
and the rest of the sheeple will fall into line.

You can firmly believe this is not the last piece of completely unconstitutional
legislation all levels of government will pass in the run up to the Olympics.

Don't worry, it'll be ok.

The truly sad part is to watch the lefties on this forum laugh and make jokes
about it, at least maybe some people will start to see them for exactly
who they are and what they represent.

It is enough to make freedom loving people throw up... and it isn't done yet.
