While I agree, there is simply nothing more eternal than a temporary govenment program to a speial interest group. I guarantee that any cuts to Indian affairs, multiculturalism or any of the big white elephants will be the club that pounds the ruling government into the ground, reguardless of side or agreement.

Well, that's the damn hurdle, isn't it? That's the wake-up slap in the face that Canada needs more than ANYTHING else. Hold a line-item, secret ballot, referendum and let the tax-payer vote on what to keep.

I agree %100. So is it fair to call him a socialist or a oportunist?

No, he's certainly not a socialist. He is an opportunist and a hypocrite. He's the biggest sell-out in Canadian political history. Actually, strike all that. He's just not smart enough to be an "ist" of any kind. He isn't that aware.

You should back that up with something or I'll just ignore your rant.

What part? On "hypocrite", he's supposed to be a rightwing politician, yet he passes the most leftwing budget in Canadian history to save his ass. That makes him a hypocrite and a sell-out to all things conservative (both big and small "c"). What baffles me more than ANYTHING is that conservatives continue to support him (both big and small "c") after he's allowed himself to be the left's bitch.

I know a lot of conservatives who voted Conservatives and most of them won't vote Conservatives again if Harper is still there at the next election. Me included.

Coming from a liberal (small "l") myself, I don't see what you're getting at here. He has a minority government, he has to compromise, and I'm happy that he did somewhat. And I wish he'd live up to his promise of scrapping the gun registry too!

It'll be a cold day in hell before I'll vote Liberal. Even with Iggy at the wheel.

That gives me hope that the Conservative Party will regain its credibility.

Maybe when this recession is over, the gov't will collect enough taxes from companies/ individuals / royalties that an increase wont be likely....but maybe I am dreaming the impossible dream?

"... because of the increasing debt."

It is Harper's debt.

Ok.... We're in a recession you know? Things were good two years ago, what's changed since then?

Harper only made a deficit to stay in power. Before the "Coalition", the budget was going to be even. He spent to keep power.

Thats crap and you know it. Harper ran up a massive debt in order to win votes. Its yet another example of how he will say and do anything to stay in power. The debt is his as is its responsibility.

As for a small tax increase after the Liberals (and Harper once or twice) lowered it nearly every single year I think its only fair.

Surprisingly none of the cons on here who scream about a larger and better equiped military seem to ever support any increase in taxes.
