So they delayed this report until after the election? How shameful. I'm aghast.

Political interference of any sort in the transportation authorities cannot be tolerated. People's lives are at stake. Whether it was one person or a hundred that died, the PMO, no matter who occupies it, should not be obstructing the release of such reports.

$1:
At the time, Masson said there was "a misunderstanding" and, in fact, the TSB was authorized to release the documents.

DerbyX DerbyX:
why this then?

$1:
A series of government emails shows an arm's-length investigatory body was told that the Prime Minister's Office wanted it to "hold off" on releasing a safety report into the high-seas death of Laura Gainey.

Again thought it still seems that no matter what gets reported about Harper they claim the same old story of left wing bias. They do so because then whenever the press reports something bad they can simply point and say "its a media campaign against them".

$1:
The series of emails obtained by the Canadian Press are between Aarin Masson, the director of communications at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, and Roseline MacAngus

Thats not the PMO, like I said it's just some underling. Is that the best the CBC can do?

uh what?
$1:
Prime Minister's Office wanted it to "hold off" on releasing a safety report into the high-seas death of Laura Gainey.

Is that not the PMO?

It's the PMO's name, where the email or communiqué? They haven't shown any correspondence which is freely available via the access to information act that this dirrective was in fact communicated by the PMO.

Why then was Chretien & Martin held entirely at fault for everything every single Liberal did?

Even being found innocent of all connections to adscam they are still blamed yet when emails from the PMO reflect badly on Harper they are in no way linked to him.

Is Harper actually the PM or is somebody else because it seems he is never responsible for anything?

Well there should have been no opportunity for misunderstanding. Nobody should have said "no" at any point, no matter how low on the totem pole.

I guess, though, I'm more shocked that the TSB asked in the first place.

I think it really depends on situation Derb, I'm not saying Harper shouldn't be accountable for the actions of his ministers, I'm saying the CBC is putting a bit of twist on this story to make it seem like more than what it is.

All members involved in this have stated this was a misunderstanding, it did nothing to furthure the intrests of the Party or the Prime Minister, and in the end it benifited no one to with hold the information. You can't even compare Adscam to this, it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Look even I have a bit of a beef with the Conservatives about they tight they have been with access to information but this is really a weak example. The emails originated from the PCO not the PMO.

*You know while I think it's a good idea, sometimes that three quote rule is really annoying

**Oh, did I mention I get to go meet Mike Duffy tomorrow :D

I didn't read any twist. It seemed pretty straight up news reporting.

If they really had anti-Harper intentions then why now? Now is the least possible return on their investment politically. Think about it. Any possible election is 6 months away at least so any short term gain will be forgotten. In fact now is about the only time Harper would want it.

Before the election and it hurts him. After the election and it still hurts him if support for the coalition was stronger. Now its not really of consequence is it?
