Perhaps you're right. Our defence spending is too low. It's been a political football for far too long to be effective .
I'm losing faith in the North American part of NATO. They did bugger all in Kosovo and that was their back yard, now most of them are doing bugger all in Afghanistan too. Don't even get me started with France.

France, at least has a bonofide combat role. The same can't be said for many other NATO countries.

So if Greenpeace shows up we can expect French commandos to take care of them?

Yep.

I've always found it curious that Greenpeace can be a conservative whipping boy until someone mention France, then it's a victim.

Sure Greenpeace may be bunch of tools, but should the French really be running military ops against them?

I mean come on now.

That's hardly the point.

Greenpeace is absolutely loathed by many conservatives, but they're quickly paraded as poor victims when their absolute favourite fall guy, France, comes into the conversation.

I cant say I'm very surprised about this.. the appointment would be for a couple
of years, The US would like more input from the Europeans, and since we have
declared we are leaving in 2011, we dont need/deserve any fresh cookies.

My guess is we can expect more military cold shoulders from Obama, including
purchasing any new stuff from them, and then there is the North...

all hail St. Obama, saviour of all lefties :)
congrats...

Actually that IS the point.

I can think my neighbour is a total knob, but that doesn't mean I'd support the local ERT team rolling into his house and putting two in his chest and one in his head for an unpaid parking ticket.

You think it would be fine and dandy for JTF2 to have planted high explosives on that anti sealing boat that was dinking around in our waters last year?

Greenpeace, just like PETA and who knows how many other organizations are tools and filled with idiots and douchebags. However, being a tool, an idiot, or a douchebag, does not make you liable to be attacked. Freedom of speech/association is a good thing, and what France did was rather...disturbing
