Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: RUEZ RUEZ: Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: RUEZ RUEZ: Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: You pussies... Aw, muffin, is your super-thin, stylish, not-made-for-winter coat not warm enough for you? Gee, that -15C without windchill must be a bitch. And I can't even begin to imagine the horror of dealing with five inches of snow... All the homeless people will be warmed by your sentiments. Actually, they're warmed by the hot chocolate and coffee I buy them when it's actually cold outside. Ottawa doesn't have people to pick the homeless off the street when it gets cold. I've seen homeless guys leaning against newsstands, covered in snow, and it's -22 without the windchill. And yet, they survive in much harsher conditions than those of Toronto. Sorry if my dry, sarcastic openness offends you. After all, I learnt it from you. Nice try, you just told a few thousand homeless to suck it up because it's not that cold. What a humanitarian. And you piss on Liberals because their mindset doesn't conform to your own. What a nice guy. What a guy, drags politics into the thread to try and dodge his thoughtless remarks.

$1: But he buys them coffee when it's really cold.
Damn straight. Because a sad reality is that they will more often than not buy cheap crack or coke or booze with the change you give them in this city. It's much better to buy them a hot drink or sandwich. $1: Never mind trying to find them shelter... that's true humanitarianism right there.
Lily, do you even know what kinds of shelters are available in this city? Not too fucking many. That's why my friend cactus died from being stabbed under a bridge in downtown Ottawa. It also doesn't help when a friend of yours decides to create a bombscare at the YMCA by dropping a grenade in their, putting dozens of innocent people at risk. ANd I sure as hell won't take them into my house, since the last two times that happened, booze and money was stolen from me.

kitty kitty: How Canadian of you! Lets compare who is colder.
Let me know when you finish tearing downing Toronto for being not cold enough for you, or is it just Torontonians at are just too cool for you? i am sure the homeless don't wear stylish coats bare legs and strappy sandles because they wanted to look cool. Isn't that what this article was about anyways?
Sorry, since I was not trying to tear up Torontonians.
But seriously, have seen many people wear Arctic style coats in 15 degree weather.
As for homelessness, it's not funny, no matter the weather outside.

lily lily: Which is it, AM? First you said, $1: Ottawa doesn't have people to pick the homeless off the street when it gets cold. I've seen homeless guys leaning against newsstands, covered in snow, and it's -22 without the windchill. And yet, they survive in much harsher conditions than those of Toronto.
Then you said: $1: I'll come down on Toronto and it's chilliness all I want, especially when I see former classmates actually freezing and dying on the streets of Ottawa.
And your point would be what, exactly?

lily lily: Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: lily lily: Anything below zero is cold when you're homeless. True enough, but "cold" is still largely subjective... So is pain. Things like that only matter to the person not experiencing it.
I'm sorry, but you lost me on that last one...

Thoughtless, eh? I actually put some thought into them.
And hey, I'm just trying to join the ever-increasing-in-size "Con Club".

$1: Isn't there shelters and shit they can go to?
Well from what I read in the article, yes there are and people will come and pick up the homeless and take them there when it's "too cold".

Even us "cons" wouldn't make light of the homeless and their struggle to stay alive in freezing weather.

Well then instead of buying them a warm drink why not buy them a ticket to Toronto where we are all so much warmer. maybe that way they won't freeze.

C'mon Lily.
At least he is doing something.
Have you done anything to help the homeless ? Surely, you do not shelter these people in your own house.
Vancouver is filled with homeless people, again, not so sure that you are out there trying to help them.

But i also see them wear bare legs and strappy shoes and well whatever they want but they are NOT what this article was about.
Besides what difference does it make? Does it really matter what the "people" in Toronto are wearing that much to you?
Why don't you tell us what is appropriate? At what temperature should i wear a scarf or hat? What sort of boots to you recommend for today? and while we are asking ... what makes you an expert?

$1: First you laugh at the homeless in Toronto
Whoa, back the fuck up. I laughed at what Toronto calls cold. $1: you don't think they're cold enough, now you say there's not enough shelters for them.... but buying them a coffee is a good alternative?
No lily. Read my post again, I said that there aren't enough shelters here in Ottawa where buying them coffee or a sandwich instead of throwing change at them IS a humane alternative. Sorry if I didn't make it clear enough. $1: Ah once again the political jabs. Even us "cons" wouldn't make light of the homeless and their struggle to stay alive in freezing weather.
I laughed at what Toronto calls cold, not the homeless. Hell, I'm even a little jealous of the homeless in Toronto because they will actually have people come and pick them up off the street adn take them somewhere warm. Not so here in Ottawa where councillors are actively pushing to displace the homeless instead of trying to help them.
And let me make this brutally clear...
Don't any of you ever dare say that I don't care about the homeless or laugh at them. Sorry if that was unclear. In the past five years, I've lost three friends in a fire caused by a fucking cigarette, two to crazy people stabbing them on the streets, four to overdoses, three to jail, and nine to rehab at some point who are now homeless. I only have Mike, Marcus, Emily and Seb left from my original gang of friends.
I know more about homelessness and its brutality here in Ottawa than any of you, so before you go pissing on me for my cold outlook on this world, keep in mind the cold shit I've seen and endured in my life.
Cactus and Eric didn't have to die, but they did. It was due to the dangerous conditions of shelters, the streets and people just feeding the underground crack and meth empire in Ottawa.

C'mon now
I am no expert by any means.
Only found it funny to see people bundle up when it's 15 degrees outside, that's all.
Anyhow, maybe I should get out of this thread before it gets too serious.
