I've used A&W's paper straws, and while they only last about half an hour, they work just fine.

See Tricks for this.

I have adopted the reusable metal straw, and I will never go back.

Sorry, but no. I'm not about to carry a reusable straw, plate, fork, spoon, knife, chopsticks, etc. around all the time in case I happen to eat out.

It's up to the restaurant I eat to provide those utensils for me and do it in an environmentally responsible fashion.

I actually have the spoon, fork, knife, and chopsticks too. Titanium so impossibly light. Straw collapses. Collapsible mug and bowl, both silicon. Used them a lot for lunch at work, haven't needed them as much since I work from home now.

Those paper straws at A&W are horrible. They turn mushy almost immediately and make the drink taste funny. It's no different really than lapping up a pool of liquid off of a piece of cardboard. It's best to carry your own straws in the vehicle with you if you go through the drive through. Even better would be if they eliminated straws altogether and simply changed the lids on the soda cups to be like the ones for coffee, with a cut-out section to drink from.

As I've never insulted Bart in a pub I don't need a straw, however, my grand daughter did ask me to purchase a "straw cleaning brush" for her reusable straw.

Hey if you ever want to do that insult thingy the first round's on me! [BB]

Better yet, let you use your own. Enough people have insulated tumblers at this point, give some sort of benefit to using your own and a lot of people will.

Of all of the items I carry, day to day, on my person or in my vehicle, for "just in case", my collapsible straw is easily the smallest and lightest.

No it isn't.

It is 100% the responsibility of the consumer.

If a business does not provide all of my wants, I provide my patronage to a business that does. Consumer decides, business follows. Capitalism.

A pleasant afternoon in a pub sounds good. However, my dear late Mom would have a few things to say about manners if I did the insult thing. Cheers.

When we recently had dinner at White Spot my drink came with a very light-weight cardboard straw. It was perfectly fine throughout dinner and did not get soggy or weakened at all. At least a straw like that can be included with food scrap recycling whereas a plastic one would just go into the general garbage.

Don't eat often in fast-food joints, the last time was a few months ago at A&W. Got the paper straw that I found perfectly fine too. Don't know what happened with Thanos.
