llama66 llama66: Strike another country from the list of places I'd like to visit. Wise non-move for the moment. If I was there I’d be remembering that urgent thing I have to do back home. $1: A former Canadian diplomat who worked as a political lead for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's 2016 visit to Hong Kong has reportedly been arrested in China. The International Crisis Group says it's aware of media reports that Michael Kovrig, its northeast Asia senior adviser, has been detained. A member of the organization wrote in a short email that it has no additional information yet. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/former-ca ... -1.4213122

DrCaleb DrCaleb: I've been more and more reluctant to give up old equipment that still works, because my trust in newer equipment is slowly eroding. Not just because of flaws that lead to vulnerabilities, but things put there deliberately. So you're saying I should keep my Samsung S4?

llama66 llama66: Strike another country from the list of places I'd like to visit. They likely wouldn't bother with the likes of you or me quite honestly - unless you own a popular anti-China blog. Grabbing random Canadians wouldn't apply any real pressure to Canada, where a former diplomat or businessman might.

Obviously, the high profile guys are at greater risk but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few nobodies got lifted too.

Sunnyways Sunnyways: BartSimpson BartSimpson: DrCaleb DrCaleb: Odd that everyone is so concerned about what Huawei might do, but ignore what Google and Facebook actually do. Huawei (with Chinese government approval) sent advanced processors to Iran which the Iranians will use to improve their nuclear weapons program and improve the accuracy of their missiles. The USA is no longer run by the Clintons and Obamas who used to turn a blind eye to this kind of thing. The possibility of a nuclear war with Iran isn’t exactly keeping me up at night. Huawei do a whole lot worse than that around the world. From a Canadian viewpoint, the Chinese govt have even less reason now to help us with our fentanyl crisis. You're right. They may claim to have less reason to help us now with the fentanyl epidemic than they did before but since they weren't going to really help us with stopping the flow anyway this latest threat isn't going to make much difference when it comes to killer drugs. It's all become a case of "do what the Chinese want or pay the price" to which I say fuck em. Turn the duplicitous bitch over to the Americans and let the chips fall where they may. $1: While Canadian officials say publicly that China is cooperating with efforts to crack down on the deadly flood, sources privately say the country is largely inactive and causing growing frustration among law enforcement agencies in Canada.
“It’s a huge fight with China right now, and if you anger the Chinese they won’t work with you,” said a source, who could not be identified. “The fentanyl coming into Canada is going to get worse. Nothing will happen because we have to satisfy what they (the Chinese government) want.” https://globalnews.ca/news/4724396/chin ... s-to-stop/Alot of Canadians said they didn't want us taking marching orders from the Americans and we had to stand up to them but, some of these same people have suddenly gone silent to the fact that the Chinese want to replace the Americans not only as our major trading partner but in who influences what we should and shouldn't be allowed to do in our own country. Now don't get me wrong. I have no problem sending all the "wanted Chinese" criminals back to their homeland but what I have a problem with is having someone blackmail us into doing what we should have the testicular fortitude to do on our own.

So she is now out on bail.
[quote="Freakinoldguy" You arrest one of ours, we arrest one of yours, you hurt one of ours, we hurt one of yours, you imprison one of ours we "accidentally" kill a couple of hundred of yours. [/quote]
'one of theirs' ?
2 homes worth $11million ex permanent resident several passports $10 million cash raised in a day or two 5 random people putting up houses as security
for 'one of theirs', she seems pretty well entrenched inside Canada.

Not just because of flaws that lead to vulnerabilities, but things put there deliberately. So you're saying I should keep my Samsung S4? If it's Android based, I'd turn off everything in your security settings, and hope that they honour those decisions.

Apple isn't exactly known for it's consumer friendly practices.

Huawei is organized along military lines. It's an arm of the Chinese government and its threat to our system has been apparent for years.

Depends on what you mean by data. They do sell ads based on your usage via tracking (if it's turned on). It's a constant struggle, I fucking loathe apple. They have garbage practices, make junk products, over charge for them, and then act indignant when somebody calls them on it. Their software (itunes) is also complete trash. I refuse to buy an iPhone for these reasons. There is no other option, currently, for a high performing phone other than Google because of this. So I'm fucked either way. I was hoping the blackphone would take off and be good enough, but no luck. Soon I hope a company comes out with a really well done OS that's locked down properly, but I'm not holding my breath.

I still have my Z30, and they can pry it from my cold, dead hand. My work phone is also BB, but Android. I turn it on when I arrive at work, and turn it off before I hit the elevator.

Don't have the article handy, but it sounds like Trump may have given her lawyers a way out. Or ammunition at least.
Canada can't extradite somebody for political reasons, only criminal. Or something like that.
So when Trump states that he absolutely would interfere with her case...
