Wonder Woman surged on Saturday, earning $23.8 million. Taken in combination with the $16 million the film earned in its second Friday at the box office, projections have now been revised for the film to earn $57 million in its second weekend.

That's more than either Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Suicide Squad earned in their second weekends, with the former earning $51.3 million and the latter taking in $43.5 million during those weekends.

This is particularly surprising since both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad had larger opening weekends than Wonder Woman ($166 million for Batman v Superman, $133.6 million for Suicide Squad, $103.2 million for Wonder Woman). This suggests that the overwhelmingly positive word of mouth for Wonder Woman compared to the mixed reception for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad is helping to give the DC Extended Universe's latest effort some extra life.
