Warnings: (-20%)
PostPosted: Wed Jan 07, 2015 7:43 pm

I was listening to this on the radio yesterday and it pissed me right off. Another case of the Yankification of our country. Most everyone probably remembers the very first stupidity case where a woman from the states slipped on the sidewalk, broke something or other, sued, won and set the precedent for decades more stupidity case money grabs. Now we're friggin plagued with them!! Everything from slip and falls, to warnings being needed on coffee cups to inform the person drinking it that it's HOT, to.... the list could go on forever.

Now a warning sign is needed for toboggan hills to warn that you could be injured.... NO SHIT!! You could also injure yourself shoveling the driveway (shovel manufacturers - you'd better get a sticker on those shovels warning of this or you're next in court), or riding your bike (stickers on those yet?), or twist your ankle if you step the wrong way (shoe companies fault!!! No warning on the shoes stating they could be so dangerous). Let's not even think about those vicious soccer balls, basketballs, and hockey pucks!! Oh my god! How many eyes have almost been lost because of those!! Let's sue the ball manufacturers for not warning us that these objects could come flying off the ground and attack us with NO NOTICE!!

All of this because some shameless assholes are looking to make a quick buck and our system allows those dickheads in the courtroom with this bullshit. Worse yet, there's enough of it going on that the main stream is actually starting to deem this shit acceptable! It's becoming the norm and no longer considered completely f***ed up.

How encouraging....

As my daughter gets closer to the age where she should be walking to school on her own, I wonder if we're going to stick to our guns on the subject.

Dam now they'll tell me no more taking a Broom and big ball out on a Frozen lake, because I gave someone a bloody jaw and eye body-check.

Jabberwalker Jabberwalker:
It's getting harder to find tobogganing hills around here. We lost three good ones in recent years by someone intentionally "engineering" the landscape so that you can't slide rather than turfing the kids off. What a shame. Fecking lawyers have hijacked kids fun yet again.

Why is a hill specifically for tobaggonning? any ole hill works for me

Our four year old wears her skating helmet while tobboganing.

They could make that a requirement instead of kicking kids off the hill.

Public_Domain Public_Domain:

I'm not sure at what age I consider okay for kids to walk on their own; perhaps the age they demand to. But I think there are plenty of good reasons to hold off handing out independence like skittles until somewhere in the teenage years.

So, are you saying we should be walking/driving our kids to school right into Jr. High?

As much as I want to be protective and keep my kids in bubble wrap so they never ever get hurt, it's not good for them. Someday the world will force me to let go and it's best if they learn to take care of themselves before that day. One small step at a time. Right now we're working on eating breakfast without waking daddy up. Since it's 7am and I've been up for 1/2 hour now, obviously we need to work on that some more :)

Jesus, I was walking to school on my own when I was in Kindergarten. The only time my mom or dad walked me was to make sure I didn't get distracted and end up playing in puddles. We wandered down to Esquimalt lagoon and Ft. Rodd on our own all the time.

We were taught that if we got ran over/hurt/beat up/killed/whatever, it would be our own fault for not paying attention/being careful/asking for it/running away/or whatever. :D
