Strutz Strutz: Horrible that a young girl has to end up in a position to commit a crime that will lead to her own death to escape a future that would be a living hell. Short time in hell ( 14 yrs on earth) vs Long time in hell ( the rest of her life stuck serving a pedophile) I really wish there was something I/we could do to get this child over here and into school where she really belongs.

What about the girls that face the same situation in Bountiful? They're right here in BC. We could actually do something about them, but we don't. Why?

And, beyond establishing the laws, the police services, and the various social programs and services in existence, what else can we do? Set curfew and arrest everybody under the age of 16 on the street after 10 PM? Obviously it's a problem, but I'm not sure how it's unspoken. Beyond taking more draconian measures to stamp out prostitution like curfews or other such measures, what more can the average citizen do to prevent child prosecution? Obviously, report such incidents, but I don't see prostitutes strolling outside my apartment window.

Except curfew for under 16 was 9 p.m. And I guess that was the first time I was arrested. Taken home and released into the custody of my parents who up until then thought I was in my bedroom doing homework. There was no doubt about where I was at any given moment for the next 30 days!

What more can the average citizen do when you read stories like the Nigerian girl save rage on a Canadian forum for a day or two until the next Muslim atrocity comes along?

andyt andyt: The point is the country would have to be willing to give her up - very doubtful. Nobody's going to launch the Blackhawks to go get her. Would we give up a girl who poisoned her husband to be et al in Bountiful? We certainly wouldn't execute her, but I wonder if we'd just let her off with "self defense." Probably not, given that Blackmore and his perverted cronies can do anything they want under the guise of freedom of religion. So, if you were to kill one of them it'd be murder no doubt and your age, gender or position as their sex slave wouldn't matter one iota. You'd be growing up in he Fraser Valley Institute for Women, while they carried on with their abominations.

GreenTiger GreenTiger: BartSimpson BartSimpson: martin14 martin14: I imagine her death will be pretty painful. If the West had any sense of decency we'd take her in as a refugee. I don't see Barry Obama leading the charge to get her into The States. Look it up, Nigeria hasn't executed anyone since 2006, 8 this year in the US so far.

commanderkai commanderkai: Maybe it'll start a trend in the Muslim world. It'll scare them shitless and hopefully they realize that women do actually have independent thought. Totally ignoring the fact its a tribal thing in Nigeria and happens in Christian communities too, did you just "Alienate" and "irritate" "just about everybody who might have Muslim leanings, or even a basic acceptance or respect of Islam in their heritage or life". Of course you didn't

Yeah but Islam isn't a real religion and Muslims aren't real people.
That said tho, DD, Islam really needs to get its act together here. Iran just passed a law allowing marriage (for girls) at nine. So it's certainly not just a tribal thing in Nigeria. It's a bit of a problem when the founder of your religion was marrying young girls himself. You should emulate our guy and just go with prostitutes.

Bingo. Everyone is so gung-ho about saving the abused children in other parts of the world. Not that I wouldn't love to do the same, but how about we save our own abused first. Lets clean up our own streets before we go cleaning up the neighbours.

Yeah but it's more fun to point fingers at them instead of looking at our own problems. We won't solve child prostitution with laws alone, we need to be in the homes of the children that become child prostitutes to prevent he abuse before it happens. But we could enforce the law in Bountiful and prevent underage girls being "married" in polygamous marriages. There we're doing absolutely nothing.
