This surprised me a lot. fining a passenger for a ridiculous cause sounds insane. This already enforced people to think negatively over on driver and ticket dispenser. If I were a lawyer, I'd have sued the transport system.

It's always the pettiest of actions by bureaucrats that lead to the bloodiest of revolutions.

Xort Xort:
Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:
I haven't ridden buses in awhile but don't the drivers carry those belly band change machines anymore and if they don't maybe they should because this is just plain stupid.

I also see a lawsuit in Montreal Transit's future. You can't kidnap a person because they didn't have the right change and then drive till one of your buddies shows up to give them a $219.00 ticket.

I believe in the rest of Canada that's called kidnapping and extortion but given the recent events in Montreal I guess it's just called municipal politics.

Although, it's nice to see that the mob has expanded it's portfolio to include transportation because everyone knows that diversification is the key to financial success. XD

It's not kidnapping, she could have turned around and got off, rather than standing around like she didn't know you have to pay with coins.

Bullshit.

If it had been some drunk who looked aggressive would the driver have closed the door and driven off or would he have told the guy to get off and waited till he did? Worst case scenario is that he would have waited for security.

This is a case of the driver being a dick and pushing his weight around because she was a woman. I wonder why we never heard of them trying this with someone who wouldn't take kindly to being hijacked.

If she pays the fine she's a bigger idiot than the driver and if I was her I'd be suing.

On that topic I think I'm in the mood to go ride a bus.

That doesn't do much good for people who don't ride the bus all the time or who are from out of town.

What are the bets this woman, Pauline Tantost is an anglophone or at least has very little French in her vocabulary? How about the driver or the two inspectors, in Montreal they were probably all francophone, making this yet another issue of the ongoing strict use of French anywhere in the province. As for the remark when told she was going to fight the ticket......
$1:
words that according to her were met with a laugh and a comment about how the only benefit of that would be the overtime the STM employee treating the file would earn.

I surely hope she decides to fight the ticket and sues the STM for every cent she can!

Brenda Brenda:
Bullshit. She offered the driver $5 while the trip was $3. He didn't want to take it because he is an asshole, and called his buddies, who fined her, but let someone else go who had an expired ticket. What's your excuse for that?

The bus driver doesn't take money from passengers, for reasons that even you should be able to understand. He isn't an asshole, why should he risk his job for her? Why didn't she ask someone for change?

As for the inspection no proof it was anything but random. As for the person that wasn't fined, at least that person at one time had a valid ticket.

$1:
$1:
Should the bus be able to take bills? Maybe. But a refit would be millions and millions of dollars that could be saved to keep costs down or to improve service.
Bullshit aswell.

Why is it bullshit? Do you think that a refit for the whole bus fleet to accept bills will be free? Someone has to pay for it. For the small number of people that don't know you need coins for the bus it's not a good investment.

$1:
HE drove off without giving her a chance, and when someone wanted to pay $3 CASH for her, he told her 'Nevermind, it's free'.
Did you READ the story? Oh wait, let me consider the source. No, you didn't.

I read one reported version of what happened. Likely given from the harmed party. Just like parrents of young thugs always say he was such a good boy, I'm going to suspect this lady was bending the truth just a little bit.

$1:
She came out of the ER with her child, you dickhead.
Do you know HOW bad her life is?
Bad enough that her big problem that day was not being able to break a bill into coins or have a bus pass.
$1:
Note to self: Don't let this fucktard get to you, Brenda. Breathe.

I say that to myself everytime I deal with soccer mom archetype.

I have been called a lot of things in my life, but this is the first (and probably the last) time I have been called a 'soccer mom archetype' :P :P

I've paid for a $3.00 fare with a $5.00 bill before, I just jam the thing into the fare thingie and take my transfer. I don't understand why this lady didn't do the same... or do they have some system in montreal where you can't do that...?

There are machines across town that dispense this card, as you know both London and Dubai get heavy tourist traffic and they seem to manage just fine.

Only in Montreal can you get fined when you offer to pay more than required.

Wow, sounds like a PR fustercluck from start to finish.

Last time this happened to me (ran out of bus tickets, just had a bill) the driver (who I didn't know) waved me through with a smile and said "catch me next time." (Although I still would have been busted had the transit cops come on board).
