part of it is the fact that you don't require a permit to purchase them. I primarily used mine to scare nuisance animals away rather than kill them

Hate to tell you, but most cops suck with rifles. They're not so much better with pistols at close range, either.

A standard pellet shot at any velocity much over 600fps should be lethal to a skunk inside of 30 meters. Just need to get him in the head or the pump.

Just myself, but I have a pretty high standard for such shots and I do not ever try for a shot that is outside of my skill level or beyond the level of the tech in my hands. If I cannot get a killing shot on an animal then I do not take the shot. Even if it is a rat, I don't want to inflict needless suffering.

There certainly used to be - it was how the government kept Airsoft guns on the Restricted list for so long.

Given that you can buy Airsoft all over the place now (Canadian Tire for example), I'm guessing the laws have changed somewhat.

I'm also guessing that someone finally figured out that an Airsoft is only dangerous to the dignity of the person using one.

Until rather recently, I'd rather have an Airsoft gun than a paintball gun, most of which looked pretty crappy when compared to Airsoft weapons.

30 - 80 million feral cats in the US--that's actually the most surprising number I found. Wow. It's been known for a while that cats kill a lot of birds and rodents. Probably the casue of the early symbiosis of cats and humans.

I honestly thought it'd be higher. You'd think cities would be filled with feral cats enjoying tasty mice and rats, and the occasional flying rat. As much as I'm sure feral cats are significant issues in rural areas, they probably help keep rodent populations in cities in check. I'd rather have some feral cats than rats scurrying around.

Yes they do keep rodents in check. Unfortunately, they lack the environmental sensitivity to avoid species at risk, so that can be a problem.

In San Francisco the feral cats have hunted the native quail into extinction. In Hawai'i the cats are decimating the native bird population. And etc.

Feral cats and outdoor cats are causing problems and they need to be eradicated or else we can kiss off the sounds of songbirds in North America.

Out in my back yard, I hear coyotes all the time. There is a subdivision near me, and people are coming by looking for their cats all the time. I often don't have the heart to let them in on reality.
