But Objectivism (or Individualism) is quite the basics of the Homo Economicus. Without that in mind, you're in Utopia.
And like I said, I have no problem with Rand. It's a young man's philosophy, but it has some nuggets. My problem is with the idiots who justify meanness by their misinterpretation of objectivism.
For example. Let's say you're walking down the street and a dirty, perma-drunk bum extends a cup and asks "Can you spare some change?". How would Rand suggest you should deal with that situtaion? The answer Rand would give is: "If you feel you want to give to the bum, because it benefits you (whether through reduced crime or hospital services or through the good feeling it gives you for helping your fellow man) then go ahead and give the guy some money. But if you don't want to give to the bum, say "Sorry, bud, no change to spare."
Now, how would the typical Randian follower answer the bum? "FUCK OFF YOU PIECE OF SHIT SCUMBAG SECONDHANDER", then spit on the guy. That's why I say what I say of Rand. That's my experience with people who call themselves Objectivitsts.
